How long you have to file a lawsuit in Louisiana will depend on the type of case you have. In Louisiana you have 1 year from the date of the accident to file an injury claim after a car accident. But, there can also be other deadlines that may apply such as the two year deadline to file an underinsured/uninsured motorist claim, commonly known as a “UM claim”. Other deadlines apply for contract claims and malpractice claims.
